Carrick-On-Shannon €30K In A Day Wrap
I don’t know why I’m no longer surprised at the level of support that the players show us every time we show up somewhere new. Carrick-on-Shannon was the perfect remedy for a stormy week, both on and off the felt!
The Irish poker circuit. It’s real. It’s a circuit for those who like their stakes modest, their opponents familiar, and their prize money hard-earned. And on Saturday, October 4th, 2025, the truck rolled into Carrick-on-Shannon.
The Main Event (181entries) was always going to be the star attraction, and it did not disappoint, attracting a stellar lineup of talent. Annette O’Carroll deserves the first mention; earlier in the day she remarked on how much she had missed being part of the Killarney action. She certainly made up for lost time, carving her way deep into the field before eventually bowing out in 6th place for €1,650.
After nearly 13 hours of play, it was Alex Gleeson who emerged victorious, collecting €5,350 and 800 points (after a 3 way deal and playing on for the trophy), outlasting a field packed with familiar faces and fierce competition. Jamie Ward and John Farrell finished in second and third, each earning €4,400, while Peter Finnerty claimed fourth for €2,370. The remaining final table spots went to Paul Coyle (€1,650), Paul Gannon (€1,430), Robert John Crawford (€1,250), and Sean Dolan (€1,100).
Although the players outside the top 19 didn’t make the money in the Main Event, they did walk away with a nice consolation prize — a €200 ticket kindly sponsored by the Adelaide Casino, Sligo, ahead of our stop there next month:
- 20th – Sam Zheng (IE)
- 21st – Martin Downes (IE) | Last Longer
- 22nd – Darren McGinley (IE)
- 23rd – Laura Crasenco (IE)
- 24th – Rory Liffey (IE) |
The Omaha 7-Max in Carrick-on-Shannon proved that fast-paced action can come in a compact package. It was Jamie Harrington who showed patience, precision, and a keen eye for the nuts, navigating the swings of Pot-Limit Omaha to claim the top prize of €880 and 300 leaderboard points. Hot on his heels was Paul Carr, who earned €440 and 250 points for a strong runner-up finish. It took Mo, our security a few minutes to release the trophy from the Cookie Jar’s grip!
The rest of the field put up a fight, with Ian Hamrock, Keith Touhey, John McGovern, Declan Millar, Sam Zheng, and Mike “Corky” Corcoran all testing their Omaha skills and keeping the action electric until the final table was set.
Harrington had cemented his name on the trophy, leaving the crowd buzzing and no doubt there’ll be celebrations back in The Eglinton Card Room in Galway City for Jamie’s win.
Saturday NLH
The €5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event brought the heat late into Saturday night in Carrick-on-Shannon. With a €200 buy-in 70 players battled for a €8,400 prize pool. By the early hours, the field had been whittled down to just three players at the final table.
Sean Murtagh led the pack with 367,000 chips, followed by Kevin Meehan at 332,000 and Stephen Bohan with 171,000. The payouts were set for the top seven finishers, with €2,600 going to first place, €1,800 for second, and €1,240 for third. Meanwhile, players like Philip Carroll, Laura Crasenco, and Philip Shanaghy had already earned their spots in the money before the final showdown.
In the end it was Stephen Bohan who saw out the show for a score of €2,600 seeing out Sean Murtagh for €1,800.
Next weekend, the Irish Poker Tour heads to Athlone for a €30K Festival, where the cards will fly even higher.
Even in a brand-new tour stop, the vibe has been electric. Familiar faces mixed with newcomers, and every table has been buzzing with competitive spirit. We like it. We love it. And after seeing the way the players have embraced Carrick-on-Shannon, there’s no doubt about it: we want more of it.
