Donegal Poker Festival Day 2 Wrap

In a world filled with confusion, where every minute and moment is diluted by distraction, one thing that cannot be replicated or reproduced is human interaction. Whether it be discussing something of importance or the mundane mediocrity of life, it just feels right.

Now that I have had the opportunity to wax lyrical, in my own attempt to battle the impending AI writers I will one day be replaced by, let’s have a look at Saturday’s action at The Donegal Poker Festival.

Starting off the day was the Donegal PF Main Event Day 1B. Bright and early, the players began making their way to the poker room floor. In total, the flight saw 82 entries, with 13 players making it through to the final day.

Joe Friel was the front-runner with 467,000, closely followed by Robert Elkin on 454,000 and Niall Grace with 405,000.

Saturday also saw an influx of players from the North making an appearance, with Steven Lee bagging 308,000, while Darren Harbinson secured 291,000.

Next up was the Saturday Omaha 200, which attracted 45 entries and generated a €7,345 prize pool. At one stage, the tables were packed with IPT regulars, many of whom had already secured their place in the Main Event final.

Eventually, we were left with the final three and the payouts were adjusted. Daryl McAleenan came out on top, taking home €2,245, while Donal Hassett finished runner-up for €1,700 and Tomas Flanagan collected €1,700 for third place.

The Donegal PF Main Event Day 1C then got underway, with 190 entries in the mix. From this field, 38 players made it through to the final. Audrius Daugvilavicius bagged the biggest stack with 633,000, followed by Helio Netto with 411,000 and Jamie W Kelly with 385,000.

At 8pm, the Saturday Night NLH began, attracting 71 entries and bringing the prize pool to €8,620. With plenty of players already bagged up in the Main Event, relaxed and ready for Sunday, there was still time to take another chance at the tables. In the end, Killian Farrell took home €1,200, Adam Rushe who is at his first IPT event had a great run, coming second and collecting €1,700, while Dylan O’Neill took the win for €2,640.

A new addition to the Saturday night schedule was the Donegal PF Main Event Day 1D Hyper, with 30 entries giving it a late-night punt. From this flight, 8 players made it through, with the biggest stack secured by John J Ward, who bagged 355,000.

Saturday is in the books, and for those who managed to find a bag, Sunday is where it starts to get serious.

Some will arrive with towers of chips, others with just enough to cause a bit of bother. Either way, they have all made it this far and now have their eyes on the same thing.

Plenty of poker still to be played, plenty of stories still to be written, and somewhere in that room is the person who will leave Donegal with the trophy.
