Galway Summer Festival Day 2 Wrap
Day two of the Galway Summer Festival delivered a cracking double-header with both Omaha and Hold’em fans getting their fill. The afternoon kicked off with the €250 PLO 8-Max, drawing a lively field of 41 entries. When the dust settled just before the dinner break, it was Michael Merrigan who stood tallest, banking €3,000 and a tidy 300 leaderboard points. James Hart and Barry O’Sullivan rounded out the podium after a fiercely contested final table that also featured the likes of Jack Chen, Tarka Roche(great to see Tarka back on the tour), and Michael Fitzgerald.
But the night was only getting started. The spotlight then shifted to the ever-popular €10k in a Day, and the turnout was nothing short of impressive with 113 entries creating a €13,560 prize pool that smashed the guarantee. After more than ten hours of play, it was Thomas Healy who navigated his way through the field to claim the top prize of €3,000 and 700 leaderboard points. David Fitzpatrick fought hard for second place and Dave Kingston added yet another strong result to his growing résumé with third. Kingston is definitely brushing up on that O’Kearney Simplify Poker stuff and it’s showing on the tables. 2 weeks in a row for Dave and no doubt another trophy is on the cards!
Both events showcased big names and plenty of drama, with players such as Shane Keary, John Cormican, and Wayne O’Byrne all making their mark across the day’s play. With two champions crowned and plenty of leaderboard points snapped up, Friday was a statement of intent and we are only getting warmed up.
