Glasgow Poker Festival – Friday Wrap Up

Wake up Maggie I think I got something to say to you…If you’re in Glasgow there is no need to walk 500 miles to have a good time. The Alea is primed to shine. With Norway and Scotland taking home trophies on Thursday the newest contenders stepped on to the felt ready to be dealt. In the casino live music from the band Little Red accompanied the clatter of chips and quips throughout the night.

Although, the action was well underway by this stage on Friday with the Glasgow Main Event Day 1D starting at 1pm, with another great turnout of 144 entries. Throughout the day Robbie Anderson in the shadows of table 19 kept building on his stack bringing 516,000 to the Final Day of the Main Event. Although at final count Gary Mclelland ended up chip leader with 525,000, outstanding work by both players putting them in a great position for Sunday’s Final. In third place with 385,000 was Padraig Parkinson from Dublin, who ranks 9th on Ireland’s All Time Money List and is one of the most well respected players of the country. 21 people secured a place in Sunday’s Main Event Final Day.

The Glasgow Omaha Championship started off at 2pm with 58 entries, bringing the prize pool to £25,335. Although it was a friendly game there was no love lost between fellow Irish men, Shane Keary and Paul Carr, Paul gave Shane a run which resulted in Mr Keary being knocked out of the tournament, in 13th place. Paul made his way to the final table but the man to watch was a very familiar face from Thursdays Glasgow 200, Stuart McNally, with 6 players remaining sat with 675,000 chips. The game got down to 3 players, and was hard fought, Craig Cunnigham came in 3rd securing £3,900. Paul Carr made it all the way to the heads up, but the last 2 nights were well and truly Stuart “McSwally” McNally’s as he won his second trophy in 2 days, taking home a further £9,235, bringing his total cash insfor the tournament up to £14,235. Paul walked away with £6,000 and 560 Points towards the Irish Poker Tour Leaderboard.

On Day 1E of the Main Eventthere were 88 entries, with 21 players making it through to Sunday’s Main Event Final Day. The high number of entries throughout the week is ensuring Sunday’s Main Event Final Day is sure to be one hell of a game. With three more opportunities to qualify, two on Saturday and one Hyper 6 level at 11am on Sunday.

The days event concluded with the Friday £5k NLH, and we had a double double with Norway’s Jan Eirek Olsen winning Back to Back £5k NLH’s winning £3,860. Meaning that two players walked away with two trophies two days in a row. The £5k was a great spectacle with German Henning Wendlandt coming in 3rd pocketing £1,670. Local David Beaumont coming in 2nd and receiving £2,490. Some of the action on the final table was captivating to say the least. Many punters staying behind just to watch on.

Another great day of Poker, but as we approach the climax of the GlasgowPoker Festival, get ready for what is sure to be even more exciting action.
