Hugh Smyth is the Man For All Season
Hugh Smyth held off a determined and powerful title defence from Paul Carr to win the 2024 Paddy Power Poker Irish Poker Tour Leaderboard in Claremorris on December 21st.
After a series of great results in the past month Paul needed to win, or finish second in, the Claremorris €20k in a Day tournament and when he was knocked out early on Hugh could relax at last. It turned out that Paul won the final counting event, the Omaha 7-Max, but there were not enough points available to pass Hugh who cashed in the Omaha and the other side event just to make sure.
1st Hugh Smyth €7,000
2nd Paul Carr €4,000
3rd Shane Keary €3,000
Hugh travels all over Ireland to the Tour events from his home in Derry and claims that as well as the joy of finally winning the Leaderboard he is also looking forward to a few weekends of family time at home…….we’ll see; for as much as he is a popular figure at all Tour stops he also LOVES the action and the fun at the tables.
Paul says that he is delighted for Hugh and that he is looking forward to beating him into a pulp at the Leaderboard Playoff which will be held at the IPT Final weekend in the Green Isle December 27th-29th. Third place Shane Keary said something similar but as nowhere near as polite.
The top 16 players in the Leaderboard will playoff for €42,400 on December 27th with the winner taking home €10,000 in prizes.
