Limerick €40K In A Day Wrap

John Farragher Takes Limerick Title After Deal

The Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick was once again a Mecca for the poker players of the South and West of Ireland on Saturday May 31st. Despite the sunny, summer weather the main event at the Irish Poker Tour’s  Limerick €40k In A Day attracted 225 entries generating a bumper prizepool of €36,720.

The entire event was played out in a typically good-natured attitude with most players just happy to be at such a big event in a region that often does not see big-time poker tournaments. However, when it got to the Final Table things got serious; 7 of the 9 finalists had between decent average plus stacks and it looked like a drawn out battle was in store. Low stacker, John J Ward was first to fall taking €1,000 for ninth, but the other low man John Reidy made a recovery at the expense of Barry O’Sullivan who fell in eighth for €1,200. It was then that a discussion broke out between the remaining seven and a deal was struck. Tommy O’Loughlin, Vitalie Sergheev, Daniel Lewis, Simon Maher and John Reidy all collected a healthy €3,800, Killian Fitzgerald accepted €4,100 for second, and the delighted chip leader John Farragher won the title, the trophy, and €4,620.

Keary & Farrell Lead Leaderboard

Two of the Irish Poker Tour’s most popular and prolific players came to the fore once again in the Side Events. Shane Keary won the Omaha 7-Max for the umpteenth time, this time beating friend of the tour and web wizard Dave Kingston heads up. Not to be outdone Killian Farrell bagged the €7.5k NLH after striking a deal with leading Cork player, Kieran O’Riordain.

Shane and Killian now sit atop the annual IPT Leaderboard, just ahead of Paul Carr, and though both attest to having no interest in winning the player of the year title you can be assured that they will both do everything in their power to be top of the heap come December.
