London Poker Festival – Day 4 Wrap
The London Poker Festival is now in full swing, let the weekend begin….
With the end of the working week, players who were unable to make it can now join the fray on the felt. Over the last couple of days, we have been lucky enough to get to know the local players and witness some fantastic poker. With Sunday’s Main Event Final creeping ever closer, the next few days will see players trying their hardest to make it through. Who will be amongst them? Only time will tell.
Friday started off with the London Main Event Day 1D, which saw 52 entries signing up. Play was competitive and Johnson Kitete-Kikumba who was runner up in the Mystery Bounty event failed to make it through to the final day. Play continued which resulted in 5 players going through. The biggest stack was with Gang Wang who had 640,000. Local regulars Dillan Patel bagged up 293,000 and Stephen O’Keeffe 481,000.
Next up was the London Omaha Championship which saw 62 entries bringing the prize pool to £27,360. Shane Keary was eliminated early on, with Paul Carr and local Sam Acheampong seated beside each other, providing the entertainment for the rest of the field. The play was tight, especially when it got down to 9 players remaining, no one wanted to give up an inch, in the hope that they could make it through to the final table. Sam Acheampong bubbled which left the rest to fight over the pot. Paul Carr had another great run, having been lowest stacked when 9 remained he held off for 4th place taking home £2880. In the end 3rd place went to Roni Tai who banked £4100, in 2nd was Christopher Young who took £5880, taking home the trophy and £8620 was Matthew Matranga. Local Matthew who would usually frequent the cash tables decided to try his luck at a live tournament. I think we might see him in a few more live tournaments to follow.
The London Main Event Day 1E was the last flight of the day and saw 98 entries signing up. With big names such as Will Kassouf and James Mitchell. From this flight 12 went through with the highest stacks going to Will who had 1,398,000, Mazalahedwa Bako bagged up 486,000 and Akshat Bansal brought forward 442,000.
In the London Daily NLH there were 47 entries bringing the prize pool to £5715. With the London Women’s Championship on the following day, it was clear to see a few ladies were getting practice before tomorrow’s event. As play continued, we were left with 6 players, 3 of which were female. In the end India Loader finished in 6th taking home £370, Amber Loader finished in 4th banking £650. The top 3 spots were taken by Simon Green who finished in 3rd and pocketed £910. When it got down to heads up a deal was made and both players opted to leave the matter of who takes the trophy home to fate. Playing the last hand blind for the title. Beat by a 9 High in 2nd was Tove Kristiansen who took home £1550 and the winner was Muhamed Suhail Mia who won the trophy and £1595.
With a jam-packed schedule for the rest of the weekend, the casino floor is sure to be electric with those eager to come out on top.
