Northern Poker Festival – Day 1 Wrap

Scorching sunshine couldn’t compete with the intensity at the Fairways Hotel, as the Northern Poker Festival got underway in serious style.

We opened with a €60 Satellite, drawing 41 entries and awarding four Main Event seats to:
Mathew O’Brien, Brian McCaul, Patrick Galvin, and Jay Lee.

That set the stage for Flight 1A of the €60,000 GTD Northern Festival Cup, which brought in 95 runners and no shortage of drama. After 15 levels of play, it was Andrew Kavanagh who topped the leaderboard, bagging a commanding 517,000 chips.

A total of 16 players punched their ticket to Day 2:

  1. Andrew Kavanagh (IE) – 517,000
  2. Eddie Regan (IE) – 480,000
  3. Vidmantas Beliauskas (LT) – 434,000
  4. Steven Lee (NI) – 330,000

  15. Daire McHugh (IE) – 98,000
  16. Anghel Sorin (RO) – 87,000

Dayrl takes another Omaha title.

Bambridge man Daryl MacAleen secured yet another trophy with the IPT, this time defeating Killian Farrell heads up. He secured the trophy along with €880, but more importantly the result keeps Dayrl well inside of the fiercely contested top 16 after securing 300 leaderboard points.

Friday €5k

The Friday 5K NLH was won by a very jubilant James Walsh who secured his first trophy in the early hours of this morning. James sang in his victory as the turn and river hit. K8 in his hand, and 8 on the flop was enough to get the long time trophy hunter singing. Well done James.

Today we do it all again starting today at 12:00 with another flight of our Main Event.

Let’s see what day 2 has in store.
