Northern Poker Festival Pulls in the Crowds
Dundalk Proves to be a Perfect Meeting Point
The Northern Poker Festival in Dundalk’s Fairways Hotel, which was held over last weekend, turned out to be a great melting pot for the poker players of the whole island of Ireland as players flooded in from north, south, west and east. The biggest winner, however, came from even further afield as Bolivia’s Rodrigo Diaz took first place in the Northern Poker Festival Cup and €15,560 after a heads-up deal that saw tour regular Aidan Quinlan collect €14,000. Rodrigo’s triumph followed on from his remarkable performance in the Summer in Dublin’s Mystery Bounty where he added €8,300 in bounties to the €3,060 first prize.
The Cup itself had 325 total entries producing a prize pool of €83,111 and the prize winners included some of the Irish Poker Tour’s best-known names including Paul Carr, Tomas Flanagan, Ray Bryant, Andy Black and Sia Browne.
All the side events also smashed their guarantees with winners including Nick Slade (yes, really) in the Friday €5k and the Saturday Omaha, Hugh Doyle in The Monsterstack, and Leaderboard Leader Hugh Smyth as part of a 4-way deal in Sunday’s Omaha 4/5 Card.
Next up on the Irish Poker Tour calendar is Claremorris’s €20k in a Day, followed by the Lúnasa Lunacy and the Donegal Poker Festival in Letterkenny which feels like it will be the Northern Poker Festival on steroids.
