Sligo €20K In A Day – Wrap
When hospitality meets high quality poker – You’ve got a match made in heaven and that’s what we got here in Sligo!
When the IPT selects a new location to host an event, it is in some respects a gamble. With guarantees set to cover any overlay that may occur, it isn’t until the day of the event, that we are able to see if the gamble has paid off. A quote from the film Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner comes to mind “Build it, and they will come” (although this isn’t the actual quote from the movie it is often repeated this way).
The Adelaide Casino has been here for close to 20 years, although a recent refurbishment has breathed a new lease of life into the Casino and the town.
The IPT were bestowed the opportunity of hosting the first event in the luxurious card room. With 182 entries signing up, the 15k guarantee rocketed up to €29,703. With regulars of the Adelaide joining the mix, everyone was delighted to see such a packed floor and vibrant atmosphere.
Adding to the already exemplary hospitality of the Adelaide Casino, pizza and chips were brought out just in time for the 30-minute break in the Main Event. Little touches such as this really helped to bring the event together.
At 7.30pm the Saturday NLH got kicked off which saw 46 entries signing up to the event, bringing the prize pool to €5,520. With calculated and measured play, we were eventually left with the final table. In the end it was Lee Roper who came in 3rd taking home €880. In 2nd was hometown boy James Gethins who banked €1,500. The winner of the Saturday NLH was Killian Farrell, who took home the trophy and €1,810.

The last event of the day to begin was the Omaha 7-Max, which saw 18 entries get involved, bringing the prize pool to €2,160. As the night wound down so did the playing field. In the end, it was Katie Harrington who came in 3rd taking home €150. In 2nd was Sean Murtagh who snapped up €640, and in 1st place was Aidan Hynes who took home the trophy and €1,370.
The Sligo €20K In A Day Main Event was set to pay 19 places; therefore, play was cagey as the numbers dwindled. Unfortunately, Sam Zheng bubbled out leaving the rest of the players in the money. We were left with our final table and the climax of a great day of poker was nearing the end. In 3rd place it was Saulius Litvinas who took home €3,240, in 2nd was Paula Sentes who banked €4,750, and in 1st place taking home €8,000 and the trophy was Gary Slevin.
With this being the inaugural event staged by the IPT in Sligo, from start to finish it was clear that this could very well become a regular stop on the tour.
From the big Main Event to the evening NLH, the tables were full of action, laughs, and tough decisions. The pizza was also tremendous! Nice touch from the crew at the Adelaide. It was a fantastic start for the IPT in Sligo, and with this kind of turnout and energy, it looks like Adelaide Casino could easily become a regular stop on the tour.
Thanks to Mark and all the crew at the Adelaide Casino who really went above and beyond to make us feel at home. A night where poker was the real winner and Sligo’s home for Poker is in safe hands.
