St. Patrick’s €100K For €100 – Final Day Wrap
Main Event Day of the St Patrick’s Weekend €100K for €100 needs no introduction. Throughout the week players had been trying to cement their position, and make it far enough in the tournament to take away their share of the prizepool which rose to €138,745 and attracting a whopping 1927 total entries.
Although we all know that every player who handed over €100 at the registration desk, thought about one thing and one thing only. I’m going to win this thing.
The €100k Main Event Day 1G Hyper (6 levels only) gave players one last chance to book a seat in the Main Event. With many followers of the Irish Poker Tour knowing it was more than possible to start at 11am, play all day and leave with the trophy. As was the case with our Glasgow champ Andy Toole, who has been reported to be, enjoying himself quite a lot over in Thailand with his winnings.
148 signed up with 36 players going through.
From all the flights the Main Event got underway with 266 players in total. The play was aggressive and people were getting busted left right and centre. It quickly got down to bubble time and it burst on Shane Dempsey. Leaving him the last player to leave without winnings. Unlucky Shane-O but great work for getting so far.
As is the way with events run by the IPT, there are always going to be some cards to play. Those still eager to have a go at taking home a trophy and those unfortunate enough to not have been able to make it to the Green Isle until now began registering for the Dublin 300, the Monsterstack and the Omaha 4/5 Cards.
With 274 entries over the 3 events, the Dublin 300, was dominated by non-other than Paul Carr, although he let people nibble here and there throughout the tournament. In the end all chips were deposited into the Cookie Jar. After a string of 2nd finishes and a 3rd in Glasgow, dawned in Green for St. Patrick, Paul “Cookie Jar” Carr took home the trophy and €7,265. Bringing him ever closer to that milly milestone on the Hendon mob he has been reaching for. In 2nd was Keith Touhey with €6,000 and 3rd was Singnelijus Jonaitis earning €3,500.
The Monsterstack ended quite abruptly, when it reached 5 players a deal was discussed and those who remained were happy to strike one up, with all 5 players receiving €2,428. The chip leader, Anthony Crampton, lifted the trophy.
The Omaha 4/5 Cards was a battle for top spot on the Paddy Power Poker Leaderboard 2024, with a heads up between two regulars on the Irish Poker Tour circuit, Mikey Merrigan and Shane Keary. On a hot streak from Glasgow, Mikey took home another trophy, planning to stop off at IKEA on the way home, having acquired 4 in less than 2 weeks he is going to need a cabinet in the gaf to display them all. Mickey took home €1,000, Shane €790 and in 3rd was Henry Stafford with €460.
With all the action going on around the players at the Main Event, as you can imagine they began to zone in when it got down to the final table. Incredible work by the floor staff meant the area was cordoned off allowing players the opportunity to properly battle it for the big money.
In the end Mark P Murphy showed the strength of character to fight through and lift the trophy, along with a decent chunk of change amounting to €22,000. Not bad at all for a €100 investment. In 2nd place was Joseph Ladniak who secured €13,500. Shane Delaney came in 3rd pocketing €9,000.
The end of Festivals is bittersweet, but here at the Irish Poker Tour we wish all players the best of luck in the Irish Open and look forward to seeing them and any newcomers back at the Green Isle for the Monster at the end of April.
