Summer In Dublin – Day 3 Wrap
It’s Friday…Time to make some stories for Monday. Where better to get some anecdotes and quotes, than surrounded by those that know more than most. Everyone who has ever been to an IPT event will know that Friday is when the ball really gets rolling. The already brimming poker floor was guaranteed to fill up quickly, and it sure did.
With a 12pm start the Main Event 1C €50k for 1st attracted 105 early birds eager to swoop in and snatch up a stash to bring through to the final day. With some big hitters failing to make the cut such as Darren Harbinson, Dara O’Kearney and Paul Carr, the competition was fierce. 18 players made it through with the highest stacks going to Massimo Pacini who had 352,000, Fergal Coyle took through 471,000. The highest stack from the flight went to Mahmood Rasheed with 546,000.
Next up was one many competitors were eager to qualify for but in the end 209 was widdled down to 30, the top 21 were in the money and the moment everyone was waiting for had arrived…Bounty Time. With each player eliminated players had the opportunity to pick out a mystery bounty 2 of which were €4,000. As play progressed it came down to 5 players remaining and a deal was done whereby the remaining bounties were added to the prize pool. In 3rd place was Dickie Whiteside who banked €3,500. The heads up was hard fought and in the end Ninni Nguyen of Norway, part of the Poker Reiser collective lifted the trophy and €6,040. In 2nd place was Kevin O’Donnell who snapped up one of the €4,000 bounties along the way taking his total to €8,050 for the tournament.
At 3pm the Omaha 7-Max kicked off, with 74 entries bringing the prize pool to €15,630. Fergal Coyle finished in 3rd place securing €2,200. With 2 competitors left a prize pool adjustment was made. In the end Tomas Geleziunas, came 2nd banking €3,730 and in 1st was Zeik Tuit from West Cork who took home the trophy and €4,300. Zeik dedicated his win to his opponent in the heads-up Tomas’ late dog who sadly passed away recently. Another great facet of the IPT scene, through hardships you will always find compassion especially at these events.
Main Event 1D €50k for 1st was the last flight of the day and saw the highest turn out so far with 180 entries. With it being a Friday evening the craic was great and the poker even better. Those taking another go at securing a stack for the final mixed with those just arriving made for a great spectacle to behold. The highest stacks of the flight belonged to Tommy O’Rourke, with 412,000, Ryan Bushell, who snapped up 464,000. The largest stack was taken in by Bogdan-Marian Bucur, who amassed 497,000.
Last but certainly not least was the Friday Night €5k with 63 eager to lay their hands on a trophy. On the final table it was great to see Steven “Storkie” Bartley and Shane Keary adding to the atmosphere. As play progressed it was Storkie who finished 3rd taking home €1,100. 2nd place went to Mark McKinney banking €1,600. The winner of the Friday Night €5k was Daniel Butt who took home the trophy and €2,410. Daniel, who was down to just enough to post a blind, clawed his way back to win, proving as always, as long as you have a chip and chair, the chance to win is still there.
With the penultimate day of the festival beckoning, 3 opportunities to secure a place in the Main Event and 3 tournaments it is sure to be a great day.
