Summer In Dublin – Day 5 Wrap
It’s the final countdown… Those who qualified early, well rested, others who qualified later already in the zone. Who will take the throne, nobody knows. Obviously, the Main Event took the majority of the focus from the floor and rightly so. With a massive prize pool and more to be added everyone involved was eager to get off and running.
With one last chance to qualify, in the form of the Main Event 1H €50k for 1st (4 Levels Late Reg & Play 8 Levels Total), 72 entries signed up adding a further €17,972 to the prize pool. Bringing the total to €271,315 for the Main Event. 24 entries qualified, with the highest stacks going to Joe O’Neill who brought through 185,000, Jeff Watson ended up with 220,000 and Costel Adragai managed to accumulate 435,000.
The Main Event Final kicked with eager anticipation and aspirations throughout. With such a large amount in the prize pool, play was cagey for the start. With players being eliminated, bringing us closer to the bittersweet moment of any festival. Players who had worked so hard to make it to this stage would be guaranteed to be leaving with something. The unfortunate bubble boy of the Main Event was Carl Cullen. An IPT regular who always adds character to any table he pulls up at. We are sure Carl will use this as the best players do to his advantage in the future. As it’s not how hard you can hit, it’s how hard you can get hit and keep going.
With the Main Event ticking away, the Dublin 400 revved into gear, with 106 entries bringing the prize pool to €36,635. Throughout the day contenders were left by the way side and in the end Gerry Griffin, took 3rd place banking €4,685. In 2nd place was Gediminas Bartkus, who secured €7,000. The winner of the Dublin 400 was Karl Hedderman, who took home the trophy and €10,500.
Next up was the Monsterstack with more chips in play, it always adds a bit of spice to the tournament. 91 entries got involved, €14,850 was the prize pool to be played for. Play was fast paced and players were eager to lay claim to the trophy. Starting later in the day, although this was the first tournament to be concluded. Larry Gorman walked away with €2,610 in 3rd place. In 2nd was Vitalijs Polukejevs who pocketed €2,690. The winner of the trophy after a 4-way ICM deal was Ryan Finnigan who banked €2,970.
The Omaha 4/5 Cards saw 43 entries sign up for the last opportunity to take home a trophy. With a prize pool of €7,020, it was clear as the final table was announced the ladies were out in force to take over this tournament. In the end Leo Reid finished in 3rd place taking €1,100. 2 ladies were left to battle it out for the trophy. After a disappointing result in the All-Ireland, Sia Browne made it her mission to ensure that a trophy made its way back to Donegal, and that is what she did. Taking home the trophy and €2,520, it was a great consolation to the disappointment in the football. In 2nd place it was Andrea Greenan, who took home €1,700.
The Main Event got down to the final table and quite quickly, players started to be dispatched. As an onlooker it was great to watch, only one man was walking away with the trophy as he sent the field packing. An IPT regular and someone who makes the events what they are with his jovial but commanding presence on the tables. Tomas Flanagan is the Summer in Dublin Champion, taking the trophy back to Tyrone and bumping up his earnings with a hefty €54,500. Congratulations Tomas and we look forward to seeing you at the next IPT event.
An honourable mention does need to go to Christopher Brabston who finished in 3rd taking home €23,000, and Ernest Lydon who finished in 2nd banking €34,000. Both players showed incredible skill and fortitude to make it so far in the competition considering the entire field for the tournament was 1,087.
Once again it is a bitter sweet moment at the end of any festival run by the IPT. The memories and experience of these events stay with people for a lifetime. Roll on the next event where we will see who steals the show and can etch their name into the history books.
