Westport Poker Festival Smashes It Up

The Irish Poker Tour continues to break new ground as it strives to bring high-quality, championship-style poker to all parts of Ireland. The Westport Poker Festival was the first ever major poker festival held in Mayo and it turned out to be a stunning success with a colourful mixture of traveling players and locals creating a convivial atmosphere where some great, and not so great, poker was played.

All guarantees were smashed with the main event, the Westport Cup, paying out just under €110,000 and over €180,000 being won in total tournament payouts. Much of the credit for the success of the weekend must go to our local partners; the Mayo Poker Tour, The Jester poker club, and the Castle Inn poker club, along with our good friends in The Eglinton Casino Galway who all promoted this event vigorously.

The Castle Court Hotel proved to be a perfect venue with superb staff, excellent food served till late, and comfortable facilities. Next year’s Westport Poker Festival has already been scheduled for the same venue and weekend and when the word gets out in the poker community it will surely be even better and bigger than this year’s.
